Life As I Know It: The Podcast by Unremarkable Me

By Antonia at Unremarkable Me | Published June 2025

Let’s face it—life with a chronic illness doesn’t come with a manual. It comes with paperwork, waiting lists, and a lot of unsolicited advice from strangers who just read a headline once. So, we made a podcast instead.

Introducing: Life As I Know It

A new podcast from Unremarkable Me, exploring the realities of living with chronic illness—unfiltered, often funny, sometimes furious, and always honest.

Hosted by me, Antonia (professional patient, reluctant expert, and occasional snack reviewer), Life As I Know It is part survival journal, part social commentary, part “what the hell is that symptom?” detective story. But more than anything, it’s a space to tell the truth—about the body, the system, and the weird in-between where most of us live.

What We Talk About

Each episode tackles a topic that often gets drowned out in the noise—things like:

  • "The Diagnosis Maze" — When you’re treated like a mystery novel missing half its pages.

  • "The Good Patient Problem" — Why being polite can sometimes hurt more than help.

  • "Grief in Real Time" — Mourning the life you imagined while still trying to live this one.

  • "Why Did the Doctor Google That?" — Yes, we saw it. No, it doesn’t fill us with confidence.

  • "Disability and Dignity" — The unspoken rules of navigating public space, and what we pretend not to notice.

And we go deeper still—exploring how chronic illness intersects with gender, class, race, and mental health. Because it doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and neither do we.

Who You’ll Hear From

This isn’t just me shouting into the void (although there may be some dramatic sighing). We’re building each episode around the voices that matter most:

  • Patients and caregivers who live this daily—sharing stories that are raw, ridiculous, and real.

  • Healthcare professionals who are doing things differently—those fighting for change from inside the system.

  • Researchers and advocates helping untangle the science, stigma, and systems at play.

And sometimes? Just honest chats about awful food in hospital, or how we accidentally became experts in medical acronyms no one should ever have to learn.

Why It Matters

Because too often, we’re asked to prove our pain, justify our rest, or perform our resilience. This podcast isn’t about inspiration—it’s about representation. It’s about documenting what it's like to exist in a world that wasn’t built with bodies like ours in mind.

It’s not always pretty. But it is ours.

Coming Fall 2025…

Life As I Know It launches in Fall 2025, with new episodes dropping twice a month.

You can listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your awkwardly timed health crises.

If you’d like to take part—if you’ve got a story that’s stayed with you, a moment you’ve never quite found the words for, or just want someone to finally listen—let me be your voice. This is a conversation, not a broadcast. And the mic’s always open.

Because this is life as we know it. And it deserves to be heard.
